1.Organizing geographical surveys on Sichuan Frontier (Chuanbian)
In January 1930, professors at the National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) such as Chen Zongnan and Zhang Yun initiated the reorganization of the Guangzhou Branch of the Science Society of China.
In May 1930, to survey and map the national boundaries, as well as to investigate the minerals and geology in northwest China, the Geological Survey Team of Sichuan Frontier was organized by the NSYSU under the sponsorship of the National Government. With the German Professor Arnold Heim of the Department of Geography taking the lead, the team appointed teaching assistants, technical specialists, and students as members. It set out from Guangdong, through Yunnan and Sichuan, to the then Xikang Province in the Chuanbian region for survey.
